When I was in grade 3, I went to my friend Janetās slumber party along with a few of our friends. Of course we talked, listened to music and ate some sponge toffee and at some point, Nancy started to get upset. I distinctly remember us saying, āPull yourself together, Nancyā and her replying, āI canāt, Iām not apart.ā
For most of us, we were taught that emotions are messy, inconvenient or even shameful. We heard things like:
āDonāt cry.ā
āCalm down.ā
āYouāre overreacting.ā
āDonāt be so sensitive.ā
And so we learned to suppress, ignore or numb.
But the Sacral Chakra ā that swirling orange energy center just below our navel ā doesnāt do suppression. It prefers to let the emotions flow.
This chakra is all about feeling your feelings ā especially the ones society tells us to push down. Sadness, joy, grief, longing, frustration, excitement⦠all of it belongs.
The Sacral Chakra is one of our emotional processing centers. If we donāt express our emotions or let them move through us, theyāll stagnate and thatās not good for our health.
We need to re-learn how to acknowledge our feelings, tune in to their messages and let them move through us naturally and thatās where chakra dancing, journaling, crystals, essential oils, and self-care rituals come in.
š How to Upshift a Feeling
Hereās a gentle self-care process from my āJoy of Feelingsā workbook that I include in my UPSHIFT coaching program to help you feel and upshift a tricky emotion.
1. Flip through the list of emotions in the Joy of Feelings workbook. Name the Feeling that best fits. (Donāt overthink it ā just pick what resonates.)
2. Acknowledge it. Say it aloud or write it down in your journal: āRight now, I feel ___ā
3. and then either:
- support the feeling if itās positive enough for the moment
- reach for the next better feeling from where you are or
- go for the opposite (better) feeling on the emotions scale
4. Choose a related crystal, essential oil and self-care idea to help move some energy in a positive direction.
- For the Sacral Chakra, try orange Carnelian, Ylang Ylang and dancing to a song like āHips Donāt Lieā by Shakira
–> What if feeling your feelings is the real superpower?
–> What if you could learn how to manage your feelings in a healthy way and not get so triggered by other people and events?
–> What if you could develop your own customized self-care practice that you can easily follow for the rest of your life?
