I thought that after a few weeks of rest over the holidays, I’d wake up in January feeling clear, motivated and ready to begin. Instead, on this first full week of the year — even after a full moon — I’m still feeling disoriented and unsure of my footing and next steps.

If you’re feeling something similar, you’re not alone — and I’ve got a few simple ways to help us find our footing, get grounded, and start the year in a calm, clear and confident way.

Name the Confusion

Confusion feels like receiving mixed messages, not knowing which way to go next. It’s a foggy, unsettled feeling of uncertainty, carrying doubt, indecision and a sense of being lost. I’ve noticed that it often shows up when I’m not yet clear about what I want — because if I did know, making decisions would feel a lot easier.

A good first step is to ask yourself:
“What do I want?”
“What would I like to do?”
“If I could, I would…”

Let yourself notice what comes up. The answers don’t have to arrive immediately — just hold them gently in your mind while journaling, meditating or taking a wellness walk.

Once you have some ideas, try them on for size. That’s how you get more information to work with. Otherwise, it’s really hard to figure things out from nothing ahead of time in your head. It’s a process — every step forward makes the next step easier and skipping ahead doesn’t work.

Check in With Your Feelings

Another really important question to explore is:
“How would I like to feel instead and what does that feel like?”

Our feelings are our truest compass. How we feel at the beginning shapes how things will turn out later.

Visualize Your Energy in Motion

Think of those heavy gym ropes you might use — the ones you hold like reins and throw forward to create ripples. How you hold them matters: the more intentional your posture and focus, the more gracefully the ropes flow. Our intentions work the same way — how we hold ourselves shapes the energy we release into the world.

I’m assuming that instead of confusion, you’d like to have some clarity. Clarity is about not having anything in the way — no fog, no obstacles — just a clear path ahead. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and things will unfold naturally.

Bring in a Few Friends

But what if clarity still feels out of reach? Bring in some helpful friends: crystals, essential oils and self-care practices.

Crystals: Red Jasper and Clear Quartz can help us feel more grounded and clear-headed.
Essential Oil: Spearmint is refreshing and directional — it even hints at movement in the name! Great for new beginnings.
Self-care: Focus on activities that engage your hips, legs and feet — walking, strength training, foot baths or massages.

Whatever you do, move in a way that feels good, grounded and true to you. Take one step at a time — clarity will follow as your footing steadies.

Here’s to a calm, clear and confident start to the year,
Maria
