How do you respond when then power goes out in your house?
On Sunday, my city did some maintenance work on the electrical system in my area, so with plenty of notice, they shut the power off from 8am to 4pm – that meant no lights or internet all day.
Since it was on a Sunday, it was not so bad but still, it made me think about how much we rely on technology.
We don’t think twice about entering a room and turning the light on or reaching into the fridge for some food or taking a hot shower and thank goodness we have such easy access to all of these modern conveniences.
Yes, I love my creature-comforts – however, sometimes it’s wise and worth it to go old school for a while – just to keep that muscle fit.
There are lots of things I could have done on my low tech/no tech day – maybe go for a wellness walk, or to the beach, or clear out some clutter, or make some art, or meditate. It was just a matter of tuning in to what was most interesting to me in the moment.
So, first I decided to go back to bed. I had a big day on Saturday at the Psychic & Spiritual Arts Fair and needed more rest. I was thinking about the Fair and all of the people I met who like crystals and there was one woman who stopped at my table for a minute and was wearing shiny silver pants. I thought, “I’ve never seen anyone wear silver pants before in all of my live long days…”
It was a bold choice – maybe the next fashion trend but then somehow my mind got on a new topic about my own ideas and asked myself the question, “If I were to come up with a new crystal, what would it be like and what would I call it?”
And the word, “Satellite” popped in my head right away – yes, that’s what I’d call my crystal.

When was the last time you thought about the Satellites we launch into our atmosphere? Did you think about them when you checked your device just now?
No, probably not because they’re hidden in plain sight and do their work from behind the scenes. And some people may not appreciate that, but still, isn’t it amazing that we can talk to people on the other side of the planet in real time – we wouldn’t be able to do that without satellites. Is that worth the trade? To me, yes.
Satellites send and receive messages all day to and from Earth and to each other – they’re on call 24/7 and are able to transmit, transcribe and translate information from one set of coordinates to another – connecting the dots so we can communicate with each other as we like!
So my invented “Satellite” crystal is a metaphor for communicating across time and space and it’s tri-colored – silver, black and light blue.
• Silver – fast energy, like Mercury (Quick Silver) and inspired by the pants I saw
• Black – usually techie things are made in black, also sleek and protective and midnight sky
• Light blue – all about communication and freedom
And instead of asking AI to generate an image for me, I drew one myself!
How about you… what kind of crystal would you design?
