As I approach another milestone birthday, I’ve been reflecting on my life. I’ve realized that life isn’t about accomplishments or status—it’s not about your age, what’s in your bank account, how much you weigh, or if you have a life partner.
Instead, it’s more about how you feel day to day, if you’re living in alignment with your values, and whether or not you follow the Golden Rule: Love Your Neighbor As Yourself.
If you generally feel good, are being authentic, and treat yourself and others with kindness, YOU’RE WINNING AT LIFE.
So, in addition to positive vibes, authenticity, love and kindness, what are my top values at this stage of the game? It’s hard to rank values, but if pressed, I’d choose:
1. Open & Honest Communication
2. Artistic Self-Expression & Creativity
3. Connection
4. Contribution
5. Courage
Am I being true to my values? Am I walking my talk? Are my thoughts, feelings, words, behaviors, values, and energy all on the same page?
In the context of turning my novel, ‘Closer to Indigo,’ into an audiobook—which requires all of these values and more—I’d have to say, “yes.” In this chapter of my life, I’m definitely keeping these values in mind as I venture into this new territory.
It’s not easy for me to break out of my comfort zone. It takes a lot for me to use my voice and put myself out there. But as long as I’m holding true to my values, I know I’ll be okay.
