By Maria Koropecky, Author of Closer to Indigo and Storytelling Coach
Hello Spiritual Storytellers,
I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates on my crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, “Help Bring ‘Closer to Indigo’ to Life on Audible. Your Support Needed for Pro Recording & Editing Fees of my Audiobook, Narrated by Me, the Author”.
As you may know, I’m raising funds to transform my novel, Closer to Indigo, into an audiobook. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve raised $80 so far and I’ve completed the recording phase of the project! Here’s a detailed look at what’s been happening behind the scenes.
The Journey to Recording Completion
To record the audiobook, I traveled to a charming little studio in Duncan, BC, about an hour’s drive from Victoria along the scenic Malahat Highway. Despite the occasional rain, the journey was beautiful, with stunning views of trees, farms, vineyards, mountains, and even eagles soaring overhead.
In this serene setting, I embarked on a series of seven recording sessions, each lasting around three hours. Recording my book was a profoundly moving experience. Hearing my own words aloud in such an immersive way was both challenging and rewarding. There were moments where the emotions of the story really hit me, and I found myself unexpectedly moved by my own writing.
The Recording Process
Recording wasn’t without its difficulties. It’s amazing how often you can trip over words, especially tricky combinations of letters and sounds. There were numerous starts and stops, and managing everything from breathing to posture, to extraneous noises, was quite the task. On the first day, my stomach gurgled unexpectedly, and Zak, my recording engineer, offered me an apple, which helped immensely. From that day on, apples became my go-to snack during sessions.
We also had to deal with unexpected interruptions like power outages and the occasional noise from trucks. However, these small challenges couldn’t dampen the excitement and satisfaction of bringing my story to life in audio form.
What’s Next?
Now that the recording is complete, the next phase is editing. This will involve piecing together the best takes and ensuring that the final product meets Audible’s high standards, particularly regarding sound quality and clarity. Zak will be handling the editing, and this is where your continued support is crucial. Editing is a meticulous and time-consuming process and hiring a professional ensures the best possible outcome.
Thank You!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. Your support means the world to me and is making this dream a reality. Every contribution brings us one step closer to sharing this story with a wider audience.
Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for being part of this journey with me!
Warm regards,
Maria
