When you think of SELF-care — and I do mean the capital SELF — What comes to mind?

Meditation, Rest, Spa, Working Out…. but rarely do you and I think of dedicating time to being CREATIVE as SELF-care.

I don’t know about you but growing up there was a shift from “playtime” and being creative as a child to more focus on knowledge-based learning, good grades at school are deemed more important than spending time being creative. Everything I was focused on was for “something” but when was the last time you were creative and enjoyed being creative with no result or outcome in mind?

We are born to play and we are born to be creative.

One of the creative practices I have taken on this year is being part of a phenomenal creative writing group that not only gets you journaling and writing but also unblocks your creativity with energy and crystal work. Through the group dynamic, you go on a fun adventure with a group of like-minded people to open up the artist that is in each of us.

It has been proven that spending time each morning journalling your thoughts lifts your spirits. Journaling focuses your attention and leads you down surprising new paths, and most importantly tune into your own creativity. When you stay curious you stay your own greatest teacher.

Just the act of writing impacts your well-being. It keeps your memory and thinking sharp, you sleep better, boosts your mood and studies show it reduces your blood pressure, stress and anxiety — and when the stress is reduced, you improve your immune system.

There are different types of creative writing processes from expressive writing (where you write about anything), stream of consciousness, gratitude lists, one sentence a day (as for some people less is more).

Our writing coach Maria works with us on getting unstuck by giving us the tools that will make you want to write, and write a little bit especially if you are like me and took everything to actually start, and there is no right time to write and sometimes it’s just a quick jot down.

One of the best SELF-care practices I now have is on Monday night. We are about to have another Creative Writing Group Course via Zoom starting on the 1st day of Spring, March 21st.

This dedicated time gives me the structure and support to keep nurturing the creative process and ultimately the artist in me.

I just broke through in being creative and now I am taking on writing about the human experience and maybe a self-care program/book for business executives to use.

Make this time for you as there is an artist in you.

Creative time is SELF CARE time.
